The Kim Dae-Jung Peace Center and Jeollanam-do, South Korea, which honor the will of President Kim Dae-Jung, the recipient of the 2000 Nobel Peace Prize and the protagonist of the historic June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, holds the < Kim Dae-Jung Peace Forum > under the theme of “Going beyond COVID-19, toward world peace.”
The world is currently experiencing extreme chaos due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The long-standing relationship and peace between humans and humans and between humans and nature are being destroyed. At the same time, tensions are aggravating, and conflicts are escalating in traditional military security, economic, trade, and technology fields.
Former President Kim Dae-Jung was a leader who spoke of human dignity and solidarity, win-win and coexistence. He was a leader who always aspired for peace centered on universal human values and sought to achieve peace of love and justice based on forgiveness and reconciliation. At the same time, he pursued ecological peace, which should also make peace with nature.
Jeollanam-do is the hometown of Kim Dae-Jung, the leader of peace and reconciliation.
At the same time, it is a place that has bravely overcome the Korean War that broke out amid the ‘politics of power’ and tragedies that happened before and after the war through the spirit of forgiveness and win-win. And Gwangju in Jeollanam-do is a city that defended democracy, human rights, and peace by resolutely resisting the brutal civilian massacre by the military dictatorship, as ‘Gwangju in May 1980’ says.
The < Kim Dae-Jung Peace Forum >aims to move toward reconciliation, healing, life, and solidarity of humankind by practicing the Kim Dae-Jung peace thought from the bottom up. We want to discourse and seek visions and alternatives for the universal peace of human beings, from the healing of conflicts to reconciliation.
I would like to ask you to attend this meaningful event and share your valuable words and wisdom with Korea and the world.
